Prof. Ofra Goldstein-Gidoni teaches at Tel Aviv University in the Department of East Asian Studies and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She is also affiliated with the Center for Japanese Studies, University of Michigan where she formerly spent a year as a Toyota Visiting Professor. She graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London

Her current research focuses on gender, women and "new fathers" in Japan, on cultural globalization and the incorporation of New Age spirituality in Israeli mainstream.  Her latest book Housewives of Japan: An Ethnography for Real Lives and Consumerized Domesticity was published in 2012 by Palgrave Macmillan (a second edition in paperback in 2015). She is also the author of Packaged Japaneseness: Weddings, Business and Brides, published by Hawaii University Press in 1997. She published numerous articles in leading journals including Journal of Material Culture, Journal of Consumer Culture, Ethnos and Ethnolog

Prof. Goldstin-Gidoni has received numerous fellowships, awards
and research grant, a
 co-founder of the Annual Conference of Asian Studies in Israel. Currently she is the co-director of the Program: Asia on Its Own Terms: A Program for a Border Crossing Dialogue at Tel Aviv University
