Dr. Ory Bartal is the head of the Department of History and Theory in Bezalel – Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.  Bartal holds an M.B.A. specializing in inter-cultural communications from Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo, an M. Des. from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem and a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies focusing on contemporary visual culture from the University of Tel Aviv. Bartal’s research covers contemporary Japanese visual culture, including advertising and contemporary design issues, Japanese avant-garde fashion, industrial design, manga and visual communication in Japan. His research explores the connection between aesthetics and contemporary consumer culture. His book “Postmodern Advertising in Japan: Seduction, Persuasion and the Tokyo Art Directors Club” published in 2015
